On Tuesday, the Daqahlia investigation police arrested a dentist from the Damietta governorate who assisted Dr. Mahmoud Magdy, 29, in hiding after he killed his wife, Dr. Yasmin Hassan Youssef, 26, with 11 stab wounds on the third day of Eid al-Adha. The Daqahlia police managed to apprehend the accused doctor while he was hiding in an apartment in Abu Talat, Alexandria. During the interrogation, the accused confessed that after committing the murder, he drove to visit his friend, Dr. "Mohamed. F", a dentist in Damietta, and recounted what had happened, leading to his friend's assistance in hiding.
The accused admitted that his friend withdrew 11,000 Egyptian pounds from his credit card to help him escape, assisted him in cutting his hair, and bought him new clothes. Additionally, he hid the t-shirt he was wearing at the time of the crime, which had his wife’s blood on it, and concealed his car before escorting him to a bus station to take a vehicle to Alexandria to hide. The accused maintained contact with his friend until he was captured.
The Daqahlia investigation police arrested the doctor who assisted and led them to the t-shirt belonging to the accused, which had the victim's blood on it. A report was filed regarding the incident, and it was referred to the public prosecutor for investigation. On Monday, the Second Mansoura Prosecutor's Office decided to remand the accused doctor for four days pending investigations after he admitted to committing the crime.
The accused, Mahmoud Magdy Abdelhady, 29, provided detailed confessions before the public prosecutor, confirming that his wife often got into arguments with him over trivial matters. On the day of the incident, she insulted him and cursed his mother, which led him to lose control. With a knife in hand, he stabbed her several times and then fled without a destination until he reached Alexandria, where he rented an apartment to hide.
He stated: "I was not in a good state of mind. I didn’t know how I killed her; I didn’t mean to kill her, and I couldn’t recall how many times I stabbed her." The incident took place on the third day of Eid al-Adha when Major General Raafat Abdelbaieth, the Daqahlia Security Director, received a report from Major Mustafa Kamal, the Daqahlia Investigations Director, about a notification from Mansoura International Hospital regarding the arrival of Yasmin Hassan Youssef, 26, a dentist, who was brought in dead with multiple stab wounds.
Investigating officers from the Second Mansoura police station, led by Colonel Mohamed Munir, arrived at the report's location. Upon inspection, they confirmed the death of Dr. Yasmin Hassan Youssef, 26, due to 11 deep stab wounds, and that the perpetrator was her husband, Mahmoud Magdy Abdelhady, who fled the scene. Eyewitnesses confirmed that the doctor had three children, and a dispute arose between the couple, during which the husband repeatedly stabbed his wife.
Witnesses added that the doctors lived in the husband’s family home and that his parents heard a quarrel. When they went to their apartment, they found the wife bleeding and lifeless, with the husband having fled before they entered. They called for an ambulance, and she was taken to Mansoura International Hospital, where she died from her injuries.
An official report was filed concerning the incident. The prosecutor ordered the body to be autopsied to determine the cause of death and authorized burial afterward, directing investigations to quickly apprehend the fugitive suspect. The Daqahlia police intensified their efforts until they arrested him while hiding in a summer apartment in Abu Talat, Alexandria.
Dr. Mahmoud Youssef, the victim's brother, stated: "I entrusted my sister to him, and he did not honor that trust, returning her to me as a corpse with 11 stab wounds. I rely on God for justice; we want retribution and justice for my respected sister, the doctor." The family recounted their shock upon learning of the crime and the murder of their only daughter by her husband, with the victim's uncle noting her good character and respectful family background, stating they never expected such a gruesome end.
The victim had called her mother in the middle of the night of the incident, complaining about her husband and asking her to come for fear of him. However, her mother reassured her, urging her to maintain peace for the sake of her family, as they lived in the family home and it was difficult to enter without someone opening the main door. The mother of the doctor remains in shock, and it is reported that she is nearly incapacitated following the incident, as "her daughter was the only one; she was the beloved one in the entire family."
