"Um Hatim" could not hold back her tears as she prayed for mercy for her son "Hatim," aged 19, and her daughter "Amal," who was 18, after a year had passed since the tragic car accident that claimed their lives. Fatima Al-Mahfouz tried to contain her tears in vain, explaining that she had dreamed of a bright future for her son Hatim and daughter Amal, but death came too quickly, affirming her decision to forgo her legal rights since nothing could compensate for her loss.
In an interview with "Al Arabiya.net," she recounted the details of the incident, clarifying that the deceased aspired to enroll at the University of Petroleum and Minerals. She added that she was traveling with Hatim, Amal, and her daughter Haneen on the Bisha-Khamis Mushait road when the horrific accident occurred, resulting in the destruction of six vehicles last year.
Fatima explained that Hatim noticed a municipal vehicle parked on the highway and attempted to avoid it but failed, colliding with it and another vehicle, causing his car to veer off the road and into a parallel road, where it struck a second car that was on the adjacent street.
Describing the accident as "horrific," she shared that in their final moments, her son was holding her hand while reciting the Shahada (the Islamic declaration of faith). Meanwhile, her daughter Amal lost her life immediately due to a head injury, whereas she and Haneen were taken to the hospital for treatment. Struggling to hold back her tears, she stated that she forgave the worker as soon as she left the hospital, saying, "Nothing in the universe can compensate me for my children."
It is worth noting that Fatima bint Abdulaziz Al-Mahfouz Al-Qarni waived her right following the accidental death of her two children caused by a cleaning worker last year. The reconciliation event took place at the mother’s home yesterday, attended by the governor of Bisha province, Mr. Saeed bin Nasser Al-Talaq, the mayor of Asir region, Waleed Al-Hamidi, and several local residents. Bouquets of flowers were presented to the families of the deceased after the general court in the province ordered the worker to pay a compensation of 300,000 riyals.
