Electricity 24/7 in Lebanon…

Lebanon, swinging between two hours of electricity from the Zahrani and Deir Ammar power plants, is threatened by darkness. This news is not new, except for the potential repercussions on prisons, scenarios of rebellion, and escape attempts. The "shadow of darkness" returns each time the arrival of quantities of fuel oil is hindered, the last instance being the absence of any fuel shipment designated for the Electricite du Liban during August 2022.

While some Lebanese have found renewable energy as a way to save money and secure electricity, prisons, with their overcrowding and difficult living conditions, remain under scrutiny, especially following reports of anticipated inmate movements inside Roumieh Prison. The main question is how electricity is secured within its walls?

A security source confirmed to MTV that electricity is secured 24/7 in prisons and that concerned parties are making efforts to ensure it despite the high financial cost. When asked about the amount paid for securing electricity from Electricite du Liban and private generators, the security source refrained from providing figures, simply stating: "Despite the costs and difficulties, we are working to supply the prisons with electricity." The source asserts that "electricity will not and cannot be cut off from the prisons."

The lights outside will not go out, but will the events of police movies transition from screen to reality, making Lebanese prisons the stage with "fabricated darkness" as the main character?
