American Strike in Syria: What Was Targeted?

The U.S. Central Command announced in a statement that the U.S. military conducted airstrikes on Tuesday targeting Iran-backed groups in Deir ez-Zor, Syria. Colonel Joe Buccino, director of communications for Central Command, clarified in the statement that the strikes targeted "infrastructure facilities used by groups affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard." He added, "Under the direction of President Joe Biden, U.S. forces conducted precise airstrikes in Deir ez-Zor, Syria, with the aim of defending and protecting U.S. forces from attacks like those that occurred on August 15 against American personnel by Iran-backed groups."
