The results of the midterm elections held on Tuesday show a lead for the Republican Party over the Democratic Party in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. According to CNN, the number of seats held by the Republican Party in the House has increased to 211, compared to 198 seats for the Democratic Party, out of 218 seats. In the Senate, which has 50 seats up for the midterm vote, Republicans currently hold 49 seats, while Democrats hold 48 seats, out of a total of 100 seats in the Senate.
