The Netherlands, Canada, and Ecuador have expressed support for calls to establish an international court to combat corruption, considering that such a judicial body could contribute to tackling "rule by thieves" (kleptocracy).
The foreign ministers of the three countries backed the campaign to create a court to combat corruption, which its supporters claim will operate under frameworks similar to those of the International Criminal Court based in The Hague.
After a meeting held in The Hague, Dutch Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra stated that "the Netherlands, Canada, and Ecuador share a common vision that this could ultimately lead to the establishment of an international court to combat corruption."
