After recordings circulated on social media warning the residents of Tyre, southern Lebanon, about a possible tsunami that could cause flooding, geologist Tony Nemer clarified through his Twitter account: "I don't know where the fear in Tyre came from or the reasons behind it. All I can say is that Tyre is one of the low-lying areas on the Lebanese coast, and simply, if one feels any tremor—even after 500 years—I reiterate that they should stay away from low-lying areas or move to higher floors if close to the sea." He added, "As for the Dead Sea Fault, I also don't know where this came from today or why. The fault to the south of Lebanon is very far from Turkey and has no relation at all, and in northwest Syria, there is nothing new compared to what I wrote yesterday. Rumors will not stop, and we cannot continue living in them. Any news of unknown origin is false."
