The European Space Agency announced today, Friday, that a large asteroid will pass between Earth and the moon on Saturday. They noted that this event, which occurs only once every ten years, poses no danger and will serve as a training exercise for planetary defense techniques. The asteroid, named "2023 DZ2," is estimated to have a diameter between 40 and 70 meters, which is large enough to wipe out a major city if it were to collide with Earth. The asteroid was first observed on February 27 by an observatory in La Palma, one of the Canary Islands in Spain. It will pass at a distance of about 175,000 kilometers from Earth at a speed of 28,000 kilometers per hour.
