Biden Honors Artists and Creatives

U.S. President Joe Biden awarded the National Medal of Arts to rock musician Bruce Springsteen on Tuesday, telling him, "Bruce, some people are just born to run," referencing Springsteen's famous song "Born to Run." Comedian Julia Louis-Dreyfus was also honored, as her TV show "Veep" parodied the vice presidency that Biden once held. The award was given to actress Mindy Kaling, who starred in the TV series "The Office," set in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Biden's hometown. During the presentation of writer Colson Whitehead, Biden mentioned his consecutive Pulitzer Prize wins for his books. A chorus of actors, writers, musicians, and other artists joined Biden in the East Room of the White House, where they received either the National Medal of Arts or the National Humanities Medal for their contributions to American society.
