Argentinian star Lionel Messi continued his favorite hobby of breaking records as he led his team Paris Saint-Germain to a 1-0 victory over Lyon yesterday, Sunday, in the eighth round of Ligue 1. Messi scored the only goal of the match in the fifth minute. This has taken Messi's tally to six goals for Paris Saint-Germain this season in 11 matches across all competitions, and he has successfully surpassed his eternal rival, Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo, and Brazilian legend Pelé, scoring more goals than both without counting penalty kicks.
According to the "SPORTbible" website, the Argentinian star has raised his number of open-play goals (not counting penalties) to 672, compared to 671 for Ronaldo and 671 for Pelé. It is noteworthy that Messi and Ronaldo dominated the Ballon d'Or award for the best player in the world between 2008 and 2021, with the Portuguese winning five and the Argentinian seven (a record).
