In a social media post on 'X', MP Gebran Bassil commemorated the anniversary of the proclamation of Greater Lebanon, honoring the efforts of Blessed Patriarch Elias Hoyek in its founding. Bassil underlined the commitment of the Lebanese people to the unity of their nation, opposing any division or annexation.
Addressing past conflicts and occupations, Bassil emphasized, 'We have faced crises, wars, and occupations, yet we steadfastly reject the division or annexation of Lebanon, adhering to the motto: Too big to be swallowed, too small to be divided.'
He urged Lebanese citizens to 'build a state and maintain partnership,' advocating for continued struggle to preserve the legacy, concluding with the phrase: 'Lebanon does not perish.'
Bassil's statement comes on the anniversary of the establishment of Greater Lebanon on September 1, 1920, when Lebanon's expanded borders were declared from the Pine Residence in Beirut—marking a pivotal moment in Lebanon's modern history.
