UNHCR Advises Countries Not to Return Fleeing Individuals to Sudan

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has called on countries to allow civilians fleeing from Sudan to enter their territories and not to return them to the conflict-torn country. Elizabeth Tan, the Director of International Protection at the UNHCR, advised governments "not to return people to Sudan due to the ongoing conflict there." She added, "There is likely to be a need for high levels of international protection for those fleeing."
