The U.S. Geological Survey announced that "an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 struck the southeast of the Loyalty Islands near New Caledonia, a French territory in the South Pacific, today, Saturday." It was noted that "the earthquake occurred at a depth of 45 kilometers."
