Tunisia: Fifth Boat Capsize Incident in Two Days

Tunisian officials announced that at least 34 African migrants went missing today, Friday, after their boat sank off the coast of Tunisia, marking the fifth boat capsizing incident in two days, raising the total number of missing persons to 67 amid a sharp increase in the number of boat journeys heading towards Italy. The Italian coast guard reported that they rescued about 750 migrants in two separate operations off the southern coast of Italy, just hours after at least five people were killed and 33 were missing while attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea from Tunisia. United Nations data indicates that at least 12,000 migrants have arrived in Italy this year from Tunisia, compared to 1,300 during the same period last year.
