UN aid official Martin Griffiths proposed today, Tuesday, that the warring parties in Sudan support a "commitment declaration" to ensure the safe passage of humanitarian relief materials, according to a UN spokesperson. Deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq stated, "The discussion of this declaration during negotiations in Jeddah encouraged Mr. Griffiths to launch this proposal." He added, "He hopes to approve the declaration as soon as possible to quickly and safely expand relief operations to meet the needs of millions of people in Sudan."
