Diving in a Frozen Swiss Lake: A Record-Breaking Feat

Czech diver David Finkel plunged into the frozen Sils Lake in Switzerland, holding his breath and descending over 50 meters deep without a wetsuit, after entering the Guinness World Records for swimming across a frozen Czech lake in 2021. Finkel entered the Sils Lake through a hole in the ice and retrieved a flag from a depth of 50 meters to prove his achievement. He exited through the same hole, spat out some blood, and sat for a minute before opening a bottle of champagne. Hospital tests later confirmed that he was not suffering from anything serious. His manager, Pavel Kalous, stated that it took him one minute and 54 seconds to dive in temperatures ranging from one to four degrees Celsius, which was slower than expected. He told Reuters, "He enjoyed it somewhat but admits he was a bit more nervous than usual and experienced some breathing issues." He added, "Being in cold water poses no difficulty for him... a lack of oxygen is normal for him."
