Taiwan President Plans Stop in New York and Los Angeles During U.S. Trip

Taiwanese presidential office spokesperson Lin Yu-chan confirmed to reporters on Tuesday that President Tsai Ing-wen will stop in New York and Los Angeles on her way to visit Guatemala and Belize. She is set to leave Taipei on March 29 and return to Taiwan on April 7.

Sources told Reuters that U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy intends to meet with Tsai during her stop in California.

In response to a question about whether he could confirm the meeting with McCarthy, Taiwanese Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Yui stated that details regarding Tsai's U.S. stops will be announced later once arrangements are finalized.

In Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin reported that China strongly opposes any communication between the United States and the Taiwan government and has already lodged "stern protests" with Washington regarding the stopover.
