Biden Receives a Special Gift from a Syrian Family in Canada

Canadian Green Party leader Elizabeth May presented President Joe Biden with a chocolate bar produced by a Syrian-Canadian family during his visit to Canada, highlighting the success story of refugees fleeing the ravages of war in their homeland. In 2016, the Hadhad family reinvigorated their chocolate company, naming it "Peace by Chocolate," according to the Toronto Star. After escaping Syria and settling in Canada, the family began making one type of chocolate in their home kitchen and selling it at local farmers' markets. After about seven years, they now offer over 250 products that combine flavors from Syria with Canadian ingredients.
