European judicial delegations have started their investigations in Beirut regarding the case of the Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon, Riad Salameh, and financial transfers from Lebanon abroad that are suspected of corruption and money laundering. The delegations began their mission with a meeting with the Lebanese Public Prosecutor, Judge Ghassan Oueidat, in the presence of the General Prosecutors, Judges Imad Qablan and Mirna Klass. They then proceeded to the public courtroom of the Court of Cassation to commence the interrogations, amid strict security measures imposed by the Internal Security Forces throughout the Palace of Justice, particularly on the fourth floor and in front of the public courtroom. The European delegations heard the testimony of former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, Saad Al-Handari, as a witness, while the second witness, Khalil Qassaf, a former employee of the Banking Control Commission, did not attend. Therefore, it was decided to postpone his hearing to a later time, with the delegations set to continue their tasks throughout the week.
