At least 9 people have died as a result of the snowstorm currently sweeping across the United States. CNN reported that the deaths occurred due to accidents, mostly traffic incidents caused by the severe weather conditions, in the states of Ohio, Kentucky, Missouri, and Kansas. According to the website "flightaware.com," over 5,400 flights were canceled in the United States on Friday due to bad weather. The snowstorm has also caused power outages for more than 590,000 homes and businesses, according to the site "poweroutage.us." U.S. authorities expect record low temperatures and snowstorms in many states, leading to emergency declarations in Georgia, Kentucky, New York, Oklahoma, North Carolina, and South Dakota. Additionally, governors in several states have announced that rescue teams and the National Guard are on high alert to address the aftermath of the storms.
