Chinese media reported that authorities in the country have barred major Chinese tech companies from providing their clients access to ChatGPT services. According to the Chinese newspaper "Nikkei," "the internet regulatory authorities in China have instructed leading tech companies not to offer ChatGPT services to customers, amid growing concerns in Beijing about the responses from uncontrolled chatbots that can address various types of user questions." The newspaper cited informed sources stating that Tencent Holdings and Ant Group received directives not to enable access to ChatGPT services on their platforms, either directly or through third parties. These companies will be required to notify Chinese authorities about any projects related to developing services similar to ChatGPT. It is noteworthy that the ChatGPT chatbot, developed by Microsoft using artificial intelligence technologies, is currently not officially available in China; however, some users manage to access it through VPN services.
