The Israeli political opposition announced today, Monday, that it will file a challenge before the Supreme Court regarding the bill presented by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to amend the rules for appointing judges. Opposition leader Yair Lapid stated, "The moment the amendments to the judicial appointments committee are passed, we will challenge them before the Supreme Court." Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced today that he would introduce improvements to his hardline government's plan to amend the laws governing the judiciary, in a clear attempt to quell protests that have swept the country for more than two months and concerns expressed by allies in the West. The announcement came after a call Netanyahu received from U.S. President Joe Biden to discuss reaching a settlement and consensus in the constitutional crisis. However, the revised plan was met with discontent from opposition parties aligned with the center-left and an escalation of demonstrations.
