Swiss Embassy Postpones "Lebanese Dinner"

Swiss Embassy Postpones

The Swiss Embassy in Lebanon and Syria issued a statement confirming that "Switzerland has been actively working in Lebanon for many years, including in the area of conflict prevention and peacebuilding." It noted that "over the past two months, in collaboration with the Humanitarian Dialogue Centre based in Switzerland, Switzerland has engaged with all Lebanese and regional and international political actors to prepare for consultative discussions, not a dialogue conference." The statement continued: "It is a Swiss tradition to offer good offices when requested; these planned discussions are a result of prior consultations with all Lebanese, regional, and international political spectra, in full respect of the Taif Agreement and the Lebanese Constitution." The embassy highlighted that "the informal dinner supposed to take place this Tuesday at the residence of the Swiss Ambassador aims to enhance the exchange of ideas among various Lebanese political actors." It added: "The names circulating in the media do not reflect the actual invitees; nevertheless, the dinner has been postponed to a later date."
