Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko warned of "the increasing risks of clashes between Russian forces and NATO forces." In an interview with the newspaper "Izvestia," he pointed out that "a notable example of this is the situation in the Baltic region, which has transformed, through NATO's joint efforts, from a calm area into one of military competition." Grushko noted that "Russia has tried in every possible way to normalize the situation in the Baltic Sea, but NATO has not taken into account any of the proposals put forward by Moscow." He considered that "the extension of the contact line between Russia and NATO by 1,200 kilometers as a result of Finland's entry into the military alliance increases the risk of confrontation."
