Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, stated that "his country will face significant difficulties in breaking the current vicious cycle regarding debt repayment without implementing reforms." In an interview with the "Financial Times," he pointed out that "the government needs to break the borrowing cycle that hinders developing economies," but he ruled out the possibility of defaulting on debts if his party returns to power. He indicated that "he would prioritize internal reforms instead of seeking relief from the debt burden." The newspaper reported him saying, "Whatever we do, as we look ahead, debt is increasing while our economy is slowly contracting. From my party's perspective, we’ve started to think that we are stuck because of this."
