Reuters reported in an investigation published today, Wednesday, that Iran used relief flights following the earthquake of February 6 to bring weapons and military equipment to its strategic ally Syria. Hundreds of flights from Iran landed at the airports in Aleppo, Damascus, and Latakia to deliver supplies, which continued for seven weeks. The agency noted that it relied on nine Syrian, Iranian, Israeli, and Western sources.
The agency quoted two regional sources and one Western intelligence source, stating that the supplies included advanced communication equipment, radar batteries, and spare parts needed for an upcoming upgrade to the Syrian air defense system that Iran supplied to Damascus during the war.
According to what Reuters reported from a regional security source and another from Western intelligence, the Israeli airstrikes in Syria targeted weapons depots and a radar station used for drones.
