New Session for Interrogating the Governor of the Bank of Lebanon

Two informed sources confirmed to "Reuters" that European investigators will return to Beirut on April 24 to interrogate two key figures who have been charged in Lebanon in a case related to fraud allegations involving the Governor of the Bank of Lebanon, Riad Salameh.

The sources stated that the Lebanese judiciary has scheduled a hearing with Salameh for tomorrow, Thursday, as part of two investigations being conducted by local authorities into his wealth, but Salameh's lawyer objected for procedural reasons.

A senior judicial official told "Reuters" today, Wednesday, that European investigators are currently requesting permission from the Lebanese judicial authorities to meet with Raja Salameh and Marianne Hayek, the governor's assistant. Marianne Hayek's attorney declined to comment.

A team of investigators from Germany, France, and Luxembourg previously interrogated witnesses in Lebanon in January, and last month they questioned Salameh in Beirut during two separate sessions. The European investigators have not announced any charges.

The three individuals in Lebanon face charges of embezzlement, undue enrichment, and money laundering in two separate cases but have not been arrested.
