Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo revealed to his country's parliament today, Thursday, that the government is currently considering a request from Tehran for the extradition of imprisoned Iranian diplomat Assadollah Assadi in exchange for Belgian aid worker Olivier Vandecasteele. The Belgian Constitutional Court supported a treaty for prisoner exchanges with Iran in March, which could pave the way for the swap of Assadi for Vandecasteele. De Croo stated that Vandecasteele is being held hostage in Iran and reiterated the call for his immediate release.
