Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian agreed early Thursday to hold a bilateral meeting soon, aiming to facilitate the reopening of embassies and consulates between the two countries, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
SPA reported that the agreement on the meeting took place during a telephone call in which both sides exchanged congratulations on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan. For his part, Abdollahian confirmed during the call Iran's readiness to enhance relations with Saudi Arabia, as stated by the Iranian news agency. The agency noted that the two ministers agreed to meet as soon as possible and begin preparations for the reopening of the embassies and consulates.
Earlier this month, Saudi Arabia and Iran had agreed to restore relations after years of estrangement.
