Highways Flooded by First Rainfall: A Blessing Turns into a Curse

The heavy rain that fell on Sunday evening turned the roads of Lebanon into lakes and swamps, causing traffic jams in many areas. Between Debieh and Jesus the King, severe traffic congestion was recorded due to the heavy torrents, with reports of rainwater entering several homes, causing significant damage to property. Additionally, the coastal highway from Beirut towards Jounieh and vice versa experienced severe traffic congestion due to accumulated rainwater, prompting security forces to urge citizens to avoid passing through to alleviate the congestion. Furthermore, the rainfall in the Marjeyoun area halted traffic entirely on the main road from Nabatieh to Marjeyoun at the Kherdali area, as the rain showers that fell in the early hours of the evening led to the sliding of cars and trucks and the leakage of diesel onto the road, forcing drivers to either turn back or stop alongside the road until the issue was addressed. Military and internal security forces teams arrived at the site to organize traffic and assist citizens stuck in their vehicles.
