On Monday, the Tunisian Coast Guard recovered 31 bodies of African migrants who drowned while attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Italy, and rescued 47 individuals. The bodies were retrieved off the coasts of Sfax, Kerkennah, Mahdia, and Gabès, including the bodies of two women and two children. Judge Fawzi Al-Masmoudi from the Sfax court explained that "the morgues in Sfax hospitals are under great pressure due to the high number of migrant bodies, which poses potential health issues." The number of migrant boats departing from Tunisia towards the Italian coasts has sharply increased in recent times.
