Canadian authorities have arrested a pigeon carrying a bag full of drugs in the yard of a prison. John Randall, the regional president of the Pacific Region of the Canadian Correctional Officers Union, reported that "the pigeon was apprehended in the yard of the Pacific Institution in British Columbia on December 29," noting that "a canvas backpack tied to the pigeon contained methamphetamine." He pointed out that "in recent years, prison officers have been looking for drones carrying drugs and other contraband, but as a correctional officer, I have heard for the first time in 13 years about the use of a bird." He added, "The use of the pigeon has posed challenges in the investigation compared to drones, as the precision of the drone made it easier to identify the intended recipient of the smuggled goods," considering that "the creativity of criminals in drug trafficking should be a concern for everyone."
