Indian Wrestlers Suspend Protests After Ministerial Promises

Top wrestlers in India decided to suspend their protest on Wednesday after the country’s sports minister promised a swift investigation regarding the head of the federation, who has been accused of sexual harassment. Olympic medalist Bajrang Punia met with sports minister Anurag Thakur in a meeting that lasted about six hours.

He stated, "The government confirmed that it will complete the investigations against Singh, so we have suspended the protest until then." Singh, a member of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party and a six-term parliament member, has been accused of sexually assaulting seven female athletes, including a minor.

Sports Minister Thakur, who is also a member of the Prime Minister's party, said, "The police will provide a charge sheet by June 15." He added to reporters, "They have asked us to complete the investigation and provide the charge sheet, and we will do that."
