Heavy rainfall in southwestern Japan has triggered landslides that resulted in the death of a woman and the disappearance of three others. Authorities urged tens of thousands to evacuate their homes due to fears of further landslides and flooding. According to the Japan Broadcasting Corporation, "a woman in her seventies died when her home in Fukuoka Prefecture was hit by a landslide, while three people went missing after a landslide struck two houses in Saga Prefecture." The Ministry of Land reported that "waters from at least eight rivers have spilled over their banks, and dozens of mudslides occurred in an area that has previously experienced heavy rains, which resulted in the death of dozens in July 2017."
