The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, urged countries to implement necessary reforms to prepare for a potential upcoming pandemic during the organization's General Assembly affiliated with the United Nations today, Monday. Ghebreyesus noted that "this cannot be postponed," warning that "the next pandemic is likely to happen soon." He added, "If we do not make the necessary changes, then who will? And if we do not implement them now, when will we?"
The annual meetings of the General Assembly, which will last ten days in Geneva and coincide with the 75th anniversary of the organization's founding, will address numerous global health challenges. A crucial meeting this week will focus on the issue of pandemics.
