Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, one of the longest-serving leaders in the world, indicated that his eldest son, Hun Manet, may take over from him as early as next month, in a surprising announcement days ahead of an uncontested election. It was widely expected that Hun Manet (45 years old), who was educated in the United States and the United Kingdom, would succeed his father, who has held the position for nearly four decades, but a specific timeline for that succession had not been defined. Hun Sen stated in an interview with Chinese television "Phoenix," broadcast yesterday, "In three or four weeks, Hun Manet could become the Prime Minister. It depends on Hun Manet's ability to do so."
