Algerian media announced today, Saturday, the death of former Constitutional Council President Tayeb Belaiz at the age of 75. Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune expressed his condolences for Belaiz's passing, according to state television. Belaiz was a prominent figure during the presidency of the late Abdelaziz Bouteflika, having been entrusted with the Ministry of Employment and National Solidarity in 2002, followed by the Ministry of Justice in 2003, and then the Ministry of Interior and Local Communities from 2013 to 2015. He later served as Minister of State and Special Advisor to the President. His last position was as President of the Constitutional Council from February to April 2019, a role he previously held from 2012 to 2013.
