7.2 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Alaska Peninsula

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit the Alaska Peninsula early on Sunday morning. A previous tsunami warning for the surrounding areas has been canceled. The U.S. system rescinded the tsunami warning that had been issued for coastal areas in southern Alaska and the Alaska Peninsula. Additionally, the Geological Survey revised the preliminary reading of the earthquake's magnitude down from 7.4, and adjusted its depth to 32.6 kilometers from an initial reading of 9.3 kilometers.
