The French parliament voted to require social media networks like "TikTok," "Snapchat," and "Instagram" to verify the age of their users and obtain parental consent when the user is under fifteen. The proposal received support from the Senate after being unanimously approved by the French National Assembly. The date for the law to come into force is still unknown, as it depends on the European Commission's opinion on its compliance with European Union laws. Social networks will have one year to implement the law for new users and two years for existing active accounts. It is noted that technical details are still under discussion. Social networks could face fines of up to 1% of the company's global revenue for violating the law.
