Matthijs de Ligt scored a stunning goal from 25 meters, giving Bayern Munich a 1-0 victory over hosts Freiburg and keeping them two points ahead of Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga. Bayern had lost 2-1 to Freiburg in the DFB-Pokal quarter-finals the previous Tuesday.
Bayern sought redemption and aimed to maintain their league lead, controlling possession and missing two chances in the first half. However, Freiburg had a chance when Ritsu Doan capitalized on a mistake by Alphonso Davies, hitting the post from close range just before halftime.
De Ligt opened the scoring with a spectacular shot, while goalkeeper Mark Flekken watched as it found the net. Leroy Sané squandered two one-on-one opportunities, shooting over Flekken's goal.
