The Pakistani city of Lahore was ranked as one of the worst cities in the world in terms of air quality in 2022, according to a global study conducted by a Swiss air purification device manufacturing company.
The report published by IQAir today stated that Chad, located in Central Africa, replaced Bangladesh to become the highest rate of air pollution last year. The air quality in Lahore worsened, with a concentration of pollutants reaching 97.4 micrograms per cubic meter, up from 86.5 in 2021, making it the most polluted city in the world.
The Chinese city of Hotan ranked second after Lahore, with a concentration of pollutants at 94.3 micrograms per cubic meter, which is an improvement from its 2021 figure of 101.5. Two Indian cities took the third and fourth places, namely Bhiwadi with 92.7 and Delhi with 92.6. The average concentration in Chad was 89.7, while Iraq, which became the second most polluted country, had a concentration of 80.1.
Pakistan, with two of its cities listed among the top five most polluted cities, ranked third with a concentration of 70.9, followed by Bahrain with 66.6. The air quality in Bangladesh improved compared to 2021, when it was ranked as the most polluted country in the world. In the latest report, it ranked fifth with a concentration of 65.8, down from 76.9.
The Asian country ranked eighth with a concentration of pollutants at 53.3.
