NATO is preparing to open a liaison office in Tokyo in 2024, serving as a center for cooperation with South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan, according to the Japanese newspaper "Nikkei." The report stated that NATO will work to enhance collaboration with its four main partners in the Pacific region and will establish bilateral cooperation agreements with each country, focusing on issues such as cybersecurity and space. Last month, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida stated that Japan does not intend to seek permanent membership in NATO or semi-permanent membership.
