Human Rights Watch: Ukraine and Russia Must Stop Using Cluster Munitions

Human Rights Watch confirmed in a report today, Thursday, that "Russian and Ukrainian forces are using cluster munitions that kill Ukrainian civilians," while the United States is considering whether to respond to the Ukrainian government's request for weapons. The organization called on both Russia and Ukraine to cease the use of such weapons and urged the United States not to supply them.

Human Rights Watch reported interviews with over 100 residents, witnesses, and emergency personnel in Ukraine, stating that "Ukraine fired cluster munitions in areas controlled by Russia in the city of Izyum in eastern Ukraine and its surroundings last year after Russia invaded Ukraine. The Ukrainian attacks killed at least 8 civilians and injured at least 15 civilians in Izyum."

The Ukrainian government is urging U.S. Congress members to pressure President Joe Biden's administration to approve the sending of cluster bombs.
