Media reports today, Friday, indicate that "the heaviest rainfall recorded in 140 years has flooded Hong Kong, the financial hub, resulting in the deaths of two people and injuring over a hundred." As of 2 pm on Friday, the Hong Kong Hospital Authority reported that approximately 110 individuals have been injured during the record-breaking heavy rain, with four of them in more serious condition. The unusual rainy conditions caused by hurricanes have led to disruptions in southern China. The extreme weather also created chaos in the nearby city of Shenzhen, a technology manufacturing center with a population of 17.7 million. Commercial and transport links across the economically vital Pearl River Delta have been severely affected. Hong Kong authorities closed schools today and ordered employees to stay home. The city's stock exchange was also closed.
