The Verdi union in Germany has called for a one-day strike on Monday among security staff at Berlin Airport in a dispute over wages, leading the airport to cancel all departing flights that day. This year, Germany, Europe's largest economy, has witnessed some of the most disruptive strikes in decades as unions push for higher wages to keep up with rising living costs. The planned strike follows strikes at four other German airports—Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Cologne-Bonn, and Stuttgart—on Thursday and Friday, when more than 700 departing flights were canceled. Berlin Brandenburg Airport stated, "Due to the announced strike by security staff, it will not be possible for any flights to take off on Monday, April 24," adding that arrival flights may also be affected. The union is negotiating with the Airport Security Association (BDLS) to advocate for wage increases for employees working night shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
