A statement from a group of Sudanese officials revealed today, Friday, that the commander of the Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, confirmed his commitment to de-escalation and expressed his readiness to meet the head of the Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan. Military sources had previously told Reuters that the Rapid Support Forces began redeploying units in the capital Khartoum and other locations amid discussions that took place last month. Tensions escalated on Thursday after some Rapid Support Forces were moved near a military airport in the city of Merowe in the north of the country, a step the army said was taken without its approval.
