During his Sunday sermon, Maronite Patriarch Bechara Al-Rahi urged "the security agencies to enhance the protection of Lebanese borders," noting that "we pray for officials to rid themselves of their personal interests." Al-Rahi questioned: "Why is Lebanon deprived of electing a president? Why is the charter, which stipulates that the President of the Republic be a Maronite Christian, the Prime Minister a Sunni Muslim, and the Speaker of the Parliament a Shia Muslim, being violated?"
