End of Avian Influenza Outbreak in France

End of Avian Influenza Outbreak in France

The French Ministry of Agriculture announced today, Wednesday, that "the wave of avian influenza outbreak in the country last month has ended, after the culling of ten million birds this season." They confirmed that they "will launch a vaccination campaign against the virus in the fall."

Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture stated: "The preventive vaccination against avian influenza will begin in October, and it will be mandatory throughout the country, making France the first country in the world to launch such a vaccination campaign."

The officials noted that "the authorities have not yet determined the duration of the vaccination campaign, whether it will be year-round or limited to the fall and winter, as this depends on the allocated budget."

France is among the countries most affected by the unprecedented outbreak of avian influenza, which has led to the death of hundreds of millions of birds over the past two years and has disrupted supplies of poultry meat and eggs. France culled approximately 22 million birds in the 2021-2022 season.
