After Al-Aqsa Events... The Arab League Warns

The Arab League warned today, Wednesday, of a "cycle of violence that threatens stability in the region and the world," following violent clashes that took place Tuesday night between Palestinian worshippers and Israeli police, which resulted in the arrest of hundreds of worshippers after extremist Jews stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem.

The Arab League held an emergency meeting at the level of permanent representatives at its headquarters in Cairo "to discuss Arab and international action to confront the brutal Israeli crimes and assaults on the lives and sanctities of the Palestinian people in occupied Jerusalem."

The League rejected "attempts to change the existing historical and legal situation at the Al-Aqsa Mosque and to divide it temporally and spatially."

In a statement following the emergency meeting called for by Jordan, it condemned "the attempt to take control of the management of Islamic endowments in occupied Jerusalem and the assault on its employees, preventing them from carrying out their duties."

It emphasized that these assaults "portend igniting a cycle of violence that threatens security and stability in the region and the world."
