Officials from the fire department in Bangladesh stated that "firefighting teams and soldiers from the army are working today, Tuesday, to extinguish a massive fire that broke out in a shopping complex housing around three thousand stores in the capital, Dhaka." There have been no reports so far of any casualties or injuries from the fire that erupted in the early hours of Tuesday morning. However, the army has been called in for assistance after the flames spread rapidly in the densely populated Bangabazar area, known for its fabric markets. Fire service official Rashid Bin Khalid told Reuters that "50 firefighting units are working to extinguish the fire, the cause of which is still unknown." Most of the stores were destroyed, but there have been no reports of anyone being trapped inside because the fire occurred in the early morning hours before most stores opened, according to the fire service official.
